Dual-zone wine columns and undercounter cabinets where one zone has drifted, the glass has started sweating, or the whole thing has quietly settled on a single temperature — the failure a collection notices last.
How it gets described on the phone
- Both zones settling on one reading no matter what the setpoints are changed to
- Condensation beading on the inside of the glass door through a humid week
- Compartment sitting several degrees above setpoint from mid-afternoon onwards
- Interior lighting flickering, or one zone that has stopped answering the control at all
What actually gets measured
- A probe left on a shelf in each zone for the length of the diagnosis, read independently of the panel
- Damper, zone sensors and the board circuit that drives them
- Door seal compression and the anti-condensation heater on glass doors
- Condenser air path where the cabinet is boxed into joinery with little clearance
- Sealed system under gauges when a zone runs warm only in the second half of the day
The panel is not evidence. A control that has lost the ability to read a zone will keep displaying a perfectly plausible number for it, which is why both zones settling on one reading is such a common complaint. Probes go in first and stay in; damper, sensors and door heater are then tested against those readings rather than against the display. In a humid Chicago August, condensation on the inside of the glass is usually the door heater rather than the refrigeration.
